Your cervix is usually the star of the show when it comes to labour, and we're all watching and waiting for it to open.
BUT! Your cervix a. doesn't *do* that to itself, and b. it does more than just dilate!

Cervical *effacement* is just as, and maybe even more, important than dilation.
Effacement is the thinning of your cervix; and your cervix can't fully dilate, until it's fully thinned.
Be sure to ask about the effacement, or %, of your cervix as well as dilation, aka cm.

When a cervix needs to thin *and* dilate, that's a lot of (amazing, fun, great) work
but once it's all the way thin, the only thing left to be done by your fundus is open your cervix to 10cm.
Because remember... THIS is how your cervix gets dilated.
