I suggest that families buy some sort of soft and stretchy wrap like this Moby or this one from Amazon.
(And in this case, yes, the cheaper version works just as well as the more expensive one)

I usually recommend that families don't use the structured carriers (like the baby bjorn or ergobaby) even with the newborn insert in the first couple weeks; newborns are so 'crumbly' and need all kinds of extra neck + body support, so for the first month I usually suggest that families stick with the stretchy-type one.
