What To Expect In Each Phase Of Labour
So, I have recently come across some great questions and resources about the different phases of labour and I figured why not share them here. I know there’s another video on this platform about the stages of labour, and I also have lots of birthing and labouring videos up, but I figured I’d put them together all in a different way here just as an extra resource of what to expect.
A couple things I wanted to highlight below:
And, jot down those questions! Prenatals are also juiciest when you come locked and loaded with questions, so start a note on your phone or a reminder list or a Trello board or whatever and get ‘em ready!
- There’s a great PDF called “Every Labour Is Unique” below that I really really love. It goes over each of the phases in a super clear way, and is especially helpful for both birthers and partners to know what to expect both sensation-wise and feeling-wise when it comes to birthing unmedicated. So take a peek at that.
- The second thing, I’ve reorganized some labouring and birthing videos below into the same five phases as the PDF above so there’s a bit more tangible and sensory understanding of what would be going on. Again, probably even more helpful that your birth partner sees this rather than the birther, so round up the troops and make sure that everyone kinda knows what’s up.
- And the third thing is there are some other interesting tidbits below about how we can assess where we are in the different stages of labour, like “the purple line”, so poke around and have some fun.
