Nursery Essentials Part Two
Okay, so I’m filming this video as a response to the multitude of responses to the original Nursery Essentials video because apparently I didn’t give y’all the goods you were looking for, so here I am for round two with some other suggestions that I hope provides a few more answers about need-buys.
The first video is all about the absolute basics of things I love and think benefit all families, but this video will be a little bit more about actual items I love.
The first item I love love LOVE is the Haakaa. I would personally buy everyone these as gifts but now they’re super mainstream and super easy to find so I don’t need to do that, but it is absolutely necessary, 110%, no compromises, no nothing. Just do it. It catches milk that is leaking out of the breast that builds bottles, saves that golden white liquid and you can use it while you feed so it’s a nice two-for-one. Make sure you get the haakaa with a stopper and make sure you ask me about how to use it because most people do it wrong.
The second item I love love LOVE is a white noise machine combo with a night-light, namely the Hatch. I find that the light is gentle enough to not be too stimulating but you’re not left stumbling around the room and the white noise is LOUD which is 100% something you need. It’s also a great way to help baby wake up in the morning with the gradual ‘morning light’ feature that you will absolutely use even into toddlerhood. I can’t recommend the Hatch enough but regardless of what you get, please just make sure you have a plugged-in white noise machine that is way louder than you think it should be and some sort of night-light.
The third and last item that I am obsessed with are muslin blankets. I absolutely am so pro muslin blankets for swaddling so please make sure you have six, eight, ten, twelve of those and if you don’t believe me and would rather get the Halo swaddle, which by the way is absolutely lovely and you can absolutely use even if you don’t have the Halo bassinet, then okay but you will not regret having some of those muslin blankets hanging around. I use the muslins for swaddling and if you insist to get another kind like the ones with zippers or the Ollie swaddle then okay, but have some muslins for me for when I come over so I can show you how I straight-jacket that baby to get some really nice sleep stretches. Also, burp clothes are ridiculous because they are so small and don’t absorb very well so I’d much rather use a muslin because I can cover more area, it soaks up spit-up and also I can use it at least three times for spit-up before it needs to be washed. Also can be used as a change pad in an emergency, I use them for bathing to keep baby warm while they’re in the bath, they can lightly cover the car seat or stroller in a pinch -- I just love ‘em.
Okay, those are three items you’ve probably already bought but if you haven’t, please take a look. Sidebar, no an electric pump is not a substitute for the haakaa and no the little owl travel white noise machine or the monkey or the circle ‘hushh’ one is not good enough so please get another and no sleep sacks are not what I want to swaddle a baby with in the first 12 weeks so please make sure you’ve got some good swaddle tools locked and loaded.
Please feel free to send me your baby registry and I can take a peek and offer some suggestions, like please get more zippered clothing than snaps because snaps are the absolute worst and no you don’t need a baby bathtub if you have an actual bathtub, so send that over via email and I will get it back to you as soon as I can. Any other questions, let me know and we’ll chat soon!
