Postpartum Breathing Exercises
In my CBE and Newborn 101 classes I normally say that the only kind of exercise you should be doing in the first six weeks postpartum are breathing exercises - and I am serious with the ‘should’. When I say that, it sometimes sounds like I’m reprimanding physical exercise and offering breathing exercises as a possibility but I really mean that breathing exercises are SO important after birth!!
If you’re taking a pilates or yoga class or working with an osteo or a pelvic floor therapist then you probably are familiar with some of those breathing exercises but if you’re not then I wanted to make sure you had access to some great videos.
If you haven’t seen a pelvic floor therapist or an osteo yet, I would highly suggest it. Natalie is an incredible, incredible practitioner and really does some great work both prenatally and postpartum so I’d suggest connecting with her and Florence actually did her thesis in diastasis and she’s one of the city’s best pilates teachers so she is also one of the most amazing people to connect with either before or after pregnancy or of course, both! She also does craniosacral therapy for both infants and adults, and she does home calls, so you might hear me seeing her name a lot ;)
Okay, peruse the videos below, connect with a healthcare professional and do your breathing!!
