Second-Time Birthers
First off, y’all are amazing.
I am so excited to work with you! This birth will be an entire new experience, and don’t worry if you don’t remember as much as you thought you would about birth; it’ll all come back to, but you also have lots of videos here to help jog your memory and also access to me.
Doulas know that first and third babies are complete gambles, we can never expect how the labour will go, but we do generally believe that second babies are fast and furious. They also tend to come before their estimated due date, and I’ve only had one second-time birther go over 40 weeks and it was just by a day or two. Labours are shorter, pain feels different, often birthers are having their second with no medical pain management, whether that was the plan or not, and it can be quite the whirlwind experience; these are also often the babies who are born in the car, in lobbies, at lightning speed.
Down below I’ve highlighted a list of videos that I think you would benefit from watching. Some of them are to jog your memory and some are things I’d like you to remember; there are some videos that might not be relevant to you, like how to care for a newborn as you probably have that down pat, but they’re there for you to re-watch anyway if you just want to be reassured that you remember what you think you remember or even learn some things if it didn’t apply to your baby the first time around, like about the witching hour.
We’ll go over everything else you might want to know during the prenatals, and just know I’m so excited for your birth! And to meet your baby number two!
