I'm sure the families that I work with are sick of hearing me tell them that position is *everything*....
But it is.

Making sure baby is in a good position is one of the best ways to have it all. In this case, that's an easier, faster, less painful labour. For example, a posterior baby can cause some rockin' back pain but an anterior baby doesn't. A baby with an asynclitic head will put uneven pressure on the cervix which means a family can expect less even or slower dilation, which doesn't sound like a fun time for anyone. I encourage families to use these techniques in the weeks leading up to labour to maximize their chances of having a great birth (again, regardless of someone's place of birth, mode of birth or decisions re: pain management.

For position, I love Spinning Babies. You can find their "Fantastic Four" here, which is a collection of the four moves picture above: rebozo sifting, forward-leaning inversion, side-lying release and standing sacral release. Read all about them, including contraindications and when to start, to decide if it's something you'll incorporate into your life in the weeks leading up to baby's birthday.

Bonus, the Miles Circuit. Involves pieces of the Fantastic Four but with some slight variations. Again, read through to decide whether it's for you!

We also got to play a little bit with the rebozo in class -- to review, you can check out this article published by Spinning Babies or check out Yiska Obadia's video here.
