The last couple weeks of pregnancy can be some of the hardest. There might not be a specific physical part of pregnancy that’s bugging you, other than feeling generally heavy or tired or over it, or there might be something that is specifically driving you nuts, like pubic symphysis pain or shortness of breath. Emotionally and mentally there might be some eager anticipation or nervous apprehension or a mix of both. Flip flopping between worry and excitement, fear and joy, doubt and elation is totally normal and is a sign that you’re officially zwischen. You’re officially in between.
Feeling up and down, totally backwards, upside down, on an emotional rollercoaster is healthy and normal and part of the experience. It’s part of any big transition; think of preparing to be a freshman in high school or university, or the night before a date, or even starting a new job. There’s always a mix of emotions no matter how badly you wanted something, so how could having a baby, the single-most life-changing event possible, be any different?
I’m with you, sister.
